RNC FILES AMICUS BRIEF TO PROTECT VIRGINIA VOTERS
October 30, 2024
WASHINGTON – Today, the RNC and the Republican Party of Virginia filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court of the United States to safeguard this election against non-citizen voting.
RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated: “With only one week to our country’s most important election, Democrats are now taking extraordinary measures to keep non-citizens on voter rolls. Kamala’s Administration sued Virginia and is now arguing to the U.S. Supreme Court that non-citizens must remain on the voter rolls. We are supporting Governor Youngkin’s efforts in the Supreme Court and fighting for only Americans to determine the future of our country.”
Background:
- Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin rightfully removed more than 1,600 self-identified non-citizens off the voter rolls.
- After Kamala’s DOJ sued Virginia, a liberal judge ordered the state to keep those non-citizens on the rolls, blatantly violating the law.
- Virginia permits same-day voter registration. If an eligible voter was inadvertently removed from the voter rolls, he or she could still go to the polling place on election day, register, and cast a provisional ballot which – assuming citizenship is verified –would be counted.
- We are fighting election interference in Virginia and across the country. The RNC is fighting to ensure only Americans decide American elections.
