President Donald Trump met tonight in New York with Taro Aso, former Japanese Prime Minister and current Vice-President of Japan’s governing Liberal Democratic Party.

 

The two discussed the enduring importance of the US-Japan alliance to both countries’ physical and economic security and to stability in the Indo-Pacific. They also discussed challenges posed by China and North Korea. President Trump praised Japan’s increased defense spending.  

 

President Trump complimented LDP Vice-President Aso on his long and distinguished career and reiterated his support and admiration for the Japanese people.
